The Illini lost to Virginia Tech on March 16th. The Illini were winning for the majority of the game, although there was a lot of back and forth too. In the end, VT just made a great march and took the lead away from the Illini. Ah well. Always next year!
The Jayhawks also lost to UCLA this past weekend. It was a real nail biter also! Still, they put up a good game, and they made it pretty far. Way to go for both the Jayhawks and the Illini to make it to postseason!
Pictured at right is my effort with more than 1 color of bead. You can see from the strand laying across the cuff on the left that you have to string the beads in order. These are for a rabid sports fan friend of mine (no, it’s not for me). I finished them over the weekend, but forgot to take a photo of the finished product, so hopefully she will take a photo of them on and send it to me. It was fun and challenging, and you can’t ask for more than that!
Now I’m working on something that I can’t post here because it’s for someone who may end up coming here and I don’t want them to know about it. I will find another project that I can work on here and go with that!
It’s a rainy cold (44 deg F) day here in Chicagoland. We were teased miserably over the weekend and Monday with temps in the upper 70s. Lovely!! Too bad it doesn’t stick. But here in the Midwest we know that weather changes as often as the day changes, so you can never count on having the perfect weather indefinitely! Still, it was a nice break from winter. The grass is greening up and plants are budding out. I am so happy Spring has arrived!!!
Plus baseball is about to start its regular season (Monday!). Stay tuned, Cubs fans!
We are not just crafters. Catwoman4 and I are big fans of college basketball. I am an Illini fan, she is a Jayhawk. Both teams made the NCAA tournament, which begins tomorrow (3/15), I believe. The Illini squeaked in with a 12 seed, but those rascally Jayhawks are the #1 seed in the West. Awesome! Go Jayhawks! Go Illini! So…just to forewarn you that we’re not all about knitting and quilting and crocheting. You may see the occasional post on college hoops.
The Illini play Virginia Tech on Friday (3/16). The Jayhawks play Niagara, also on Friday. Both games will take place at the United Center in Chicago. Stay tuned!
(I’ll let catwoman4 explain anything she wants you to know about her, but I thought I’d explain the basic premise of our blog.) We are two friends who have known each other since grade school. I am primarily a knitter, although I also crochet, cross-stitch, and sew. We live in different states, but have been penpals since catwoman4 moved away after 6th grade. I think postage was 6 cents when we started writing to each other!
Catwoman and her mother taught me to crochet. An elderly babysitter taught me to knit, although I didn’t really make anything of significance until about 1992 when I made my first sweater. I go in cycles with my passions, but right now it is knitting.
I am currently working on some more beaded wrist cuffs. I will post something about them soon. In the meantime, come on in, have a look around, and join us as we start this fabulous journey into blogdom!
A few years ago I wanted to make a colorful, fun blanket for my young niece. I found some crazy green fleece in a fabric store, and then found some matching Fun Fur yarn (I think Lion Brand makes it). It was fun to make, but the hardest part was poking holes in the fleece. I got this awl-type tool. I got it at Michael’s, but it wasn’t for knitting or crocheting. I forget what it was for. I poked holes in the fleece around the edge at measured intervals, but then I had to put a double-pointed knitting needle through the poked hole to make it big enough for a crochet hook to go through. A bit of work, but once it was done, it was pretty cool. She loved it!
