Beaded wrist cuffs

Black irridescent beaded cuffsHere’s the photo of the black wrist cuffs I made with the irridescent beads. They took awhile to make because of the holidays and all the other projects I was working on, but they turned out pretty well. (I thought the flowers would brighten the photo.) They are a gift for a very special lady. She was supposed to get them for Christmas, but hey, St. Patrick’s Day isn’t too far off, eh? In any case, they will keep her wrists warm, and be a nice accessory as well.

Baby Santa Hat

Baby Santa Hat This is a baby Santa hat I made in December. It was for a friend’s daughter’s new baby. The hat was a kit, and I wasn’t really all that pleased with it. The white yarn was fine, very soft and fuzzy. But the red yarn drove me crazy. It was 4 ply — almost a thread. It was very coarse too. I kept asking everyone if it was too rough for a baby hat, but everyone I asked (mothers amongst them) said it would be fine. After the softness of the white yarn, though, I still didn’t like it. Even with the motherly reassurances. But I gave it to my friend’s daughter anyway. She and her husband didn’t seem to mind, but it still bothers me. I may make them something else yet. That’s it for now. More soon.

To Begin…

Snowflake beaded cuffsI thought I’d start by posting a photo or two of recent projects. I’ve been fascinated by knitting with beads for quite awhile. I took a class at Stitches Midwest ‘06 with Susanna Hansson on how to make some beautiful beaded wrist cuffs. See her site — One of Susanna’s – there’s a link in the Blogroll section. The snowflake pattern is a cross-stitch pattern I used. The little surrounding bead pattern is something I just came up with. It’s a lot of fun — you have to string the beads on your yarn before you begin. If you’re only using one color it’s not a problem, but if you use more than one color, it’s a real mind bender. I just tried using more than one color, and when I finish those cuffs, I’ll post them. You can also use the illusion of more than one color by using beads that are irridescent. I have some cuffs that do that, I’ll post those another time (the photos are on another computer at another location). Let me know what you think….
